As an IT Platform Engineer, you develop and manage ABN AMRO database platforms with a focus on SQL Server. Responsibilities include platform improvement, security, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting while working in an Agile team.

About the role

As an IT Platform Engineer for Databases, you develop and manage ABN AMRO target platforms, enabling application teams to quickly and easily develop and manage their software. You have in-depth knowledge of one of the platforms within ABN AMRO and understand various products provided by external vendors on the platform.

You are part of an Agile team (consisting of internal employees and vendor resources, mainly in India) and report to the Product Owner for Databases. You work independently on the team's user stories and participate in all team activities during sprints, such as stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc., to maintain transparency in your progress.

With the following results 

You are primarily involved in delivering Database products such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server:

  • Review current platforms, propose improvements, and execute these proposals.
  • Ensure secure and stable platforms that can quickly adapt to the needs of application teams (e.g., implementation of new features).
  • Deliver end-to-end integrated platforms, including service management, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines, security (audit, risk, vulnerability) etc.
  • Develop and agree on lifecycle management plans.
  • Manage costs and licensing.
  • As an Experienced SQL DBA, Your Tasks and Responsibilities Include:
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL database environments.
  • Plan and implement database upgrades, migrations, and patches.
  • Monitor databases and proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Implement and maintain database security, including user management, access control, auditing, and compliance.
  • Create and maintain database backup and recovery strategies and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Resolve database-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve the SQL Server platform.

Relevant Knowledge, Skills, Competencies & Desired Education Level

As a Platform Engineer for Databases, you have demonstrable, recent technical knowledge of the products within the team’s scope and basic knowledge of all IT areas. You continually work on your development, becoming more multi-skilled and keeping your knowledge of new techniques and methods up to date, effectively and efficiently applying them in your deliverables.

You take ownership of the quality of your focus area and are available 24/7 (if necessary) to ensure quality and continuity. You embody the principle “You build it, you run it” in practice, ensuring that the team adheres to standards and design principles. You proactively contribute to improvements in products, processes, and services, as well as the way the team functions, taking associated risks into account and respecting rules and procedures. 

Specialist Knowledge of:

  • SQL Server infrastructures, both on-premise and on Azure.
  • SQL Server security and compliance features such as TDE and SQL Server Auditing.
  • SQL Server high availability features such as Always On Availability Groups and Always On Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Performance tuning and optimization techniques for SQL Server, both at the database and VM level.
  • Developing and maintaining backup and recovery strategies and procedures.
  • Industry standards such as CIS benchmarks for SQL Server.
  • Ability to solve database-related issues and develop and maintain technical documentation and procedures.
     
    Additionally, it is an advantage if you:
  • Have Microsoft SQL Server certification.
  • Have experience with and certification in Azure.
  • Have experience with other databases such as Oracle.
  • Have experience with automation (Ansible).
  • Have knowledge of backup and restore using Commvault.

Our Offer

  • The gross monthly salary displayed at the top of the page is based on a 36-hour workweek, including vacation pay and benefit budget.
